Quotes...
" People say hate and bitterness will destroy you. They're wrong. It's hope. Hope will devour you from the inside like a parasite. "
" Fresh start. Like life was a carton of milk. When one went sour you threw it out and opened another. "
What it is about...
A father in his quest to discover the truth about his family's murders.
I liked...
The premise was so intriguing! Although I guessed many twists, I enjoyed going the foreshadowing, but also the unfolding of those plot points. *spoilery thoughts* Him seeing his daughter in someone's car as he's driving back home was THRI-LLING! Also, I loved the idea that there is this underground community of people that help each other in their search for an eye for an eye type of justice.
The nice and flowy writing.
I disliked...
The supernatural element. I wished I had known about it before going in as I usually dislike finding out that there's some supernatural stuff midway through my reading. However, this was almost obsolete in the story , and I wished it had just been cut out entirely. It did nothing to further the story, it was just there for no reason but to add some creepiness I guess.
The ending was nonsensical. *spoilery thoughts* What a terribly disappointing reveal. Why the caretaker would, after YEARS of caring for human being, give up all her ethics to money? It was so unbelievable, and did NOT fit the character whatsoever. I just don't understand how she could justify killing 3 people when she spent her all life caring for a girl in coma. IT made absolutely no sense that she would have gone to those lengths to get what she deserved (aka a whole lot of material stuff). Nope, not believing that. Tudor, you gotta do better than that.
There was a few mistakes that editing didn't catch. Also, an "anemic-looking' toast isn't a thing.
TLDR...
A good mystery that is emotionally gripping but with a disappointing, illogical ending.
